Papua New Guinea
The Patricians arrived in Aitape, on the northern coast of Papua New Guinea, in 1968. Since then the Brothers have administered four schools in the Sandaun Province: two in Aitape, one in Walamu and Lumi. Brothers have also ministered to the people of the parishes of Aitape, Laingim, and Walamu, running retreats, Sacramental, Scripture, and personal development programmes, as well as sporting competitions.
The formation house of the Patricians in PNG, where young men are introduced to Religious Life as Patricians, is located on Bishops Hill, Aitape. Two indigenous Patricians oversee the programme and maintain the property for their use and the frequent use of the Aitape Diocese.
Currently there are four Patrician Brothers in Aitape. Three are indigenous and one is from Australia. The third indigenous Brother teaches in the local Catholic high school.
